Site description / history / treatment:
  • Vegetation: Open field with dense green grass cover
  • Ground Cover: Dense cover of dead grass material, about 20cm thick; very hard to dig through
  • Soil Surface: Humic sandy soil, some compaction, slightly moist
  • Last Rainfall: Rainfall on Kachana 2004/2005
  • Fire: No recent fires
  • Biological: 900-1200 stockdays per ha per year (2 to 3 high density treatments)
  • Mechanical: None
  • Chemical: None
  • Bare ground in 1992
Profile description:
  • 0-7cm:Dusty sand with humus, held together by dense grass roots; color: grey
  • 7-25cm:Sandy humus layer, slightly moist, lots of grass roots; color: dark grey
  • 25-50cm:Sand with some humic compounds, slightly moist, some grass roots; color: grey to brown
  • 50-67cm:Sand mixed with gravel, moist; color: brown
