Management objectives:

Site description / history / treatment:
  • Vegetation: Burnt down forest with pandanus, grevillea, eucalyptus
  • Ground Cover: No ground cover, soil covered with 3-5cm of ash;
  • Soil Surface: Dry dust and ashes
  • Last Rainfall: Rainfall on Kachana 2004/2005
  • Fire: Hot wild fires in October 1996 and August 2005 (2 weeks prior to sampling)
  • Biological: 2 months low density grazing (cattle and horses)
  • Mechanical: None
  • Chemical: None
  • Small stream of flowing water appeared after the fire
  • Little green sprouts appearing wherever there is water
Profile description:
  • 0-3cm:Dusty top soil mixed with ashes, some thin grass roots and thicker tree roots
  • 3-23cm:Sandy soil with humic compounds, some tree roots; color: dark brown
  • 23-60cm:Wet sand with ground water entry; color: brown to grey
