Quote of the Moment:

“Albert Einstein was to have said: ‘Religion without science is blindness, science without religion is deafness.’… One is tempted to conclude that those people who make modern science their religion are dumb.”

At present it is beyond the scope of Kachana Pastoral Company to introduce more than the mere basics.

Let us begin with a little “farmer story”.

"Wally from the city comes to see his cousin Tom:

W: "G'day Tom! How come you have got your arm in Plaster?"
T: "Aw Wall, you see I had this stooone in me gum boot."
W: "You what...?"
T: "Well, I's sitin' there milkin' Daisy, …and I feel this stooone in me gum boot. I gets up, and as I'm leaning up against the power board, ….takin' off me boot… in comes Harry, ... me boy... He sees me there shakin', …quick as a flash he grabs a 4"x 2" and knocks me away from that switch board...
He thought I was gettin' prosecuted.... Awll I had, was a stooone in me gum boot."

I laughed when I first heard it, but there is also a sad side to the story:

  • How can the land manager effectively explain the connection between a stone in a gum boot and a body shaking next to a switch board in the time it takes for “help” to arrive?
  • How many city people are even interested to see the connection between a pebble and an arm in plaster and what exactly their “help” may have had to do with it?

Such is the complexity involved between a young person who “could have had it all...” and a suicide note…

Such is the complexity involved between a young bush kid telling his teacher on school of the air about the mare that just had a foal and the chaining of thousands of acres of scrubb…

Such is the complexity involved between the opportunity a nation has to export wheat and millions of acres of salt…

Such is the complexity involved between where the butter is hidden in the fridge and the family farm being taken away by the bank…

Such is the complexity between the ruins of Zimbabwe, the building of Rhodesia and floods in Mozambique.
